The Pornographer

Jean-Pierre Leaud ("The 400 Blows") gives a thoughtful performance as Jacques Laurent an aging formerly successful pornographer coming to grips with his obsolescence in the porn industry and the alienation he feels for his wife as he attempts to reconcile relations with his teenaged son (Jeremie Renier). Writer/director Bertrand Bonello captures a lyrical atmosphere of melancholy amid personal and societal shifts that underscore Jacques' dying sense of passion and inability to conform to modern demands of pornography. "The Pornographer" is a meditative movie for watching on a rainy afternoon. Special features include a short film ("The Adventures of James and Davis") by Bertrand Bonello and the original French theatrical trailer. (Movie - Two Stars, DVD features - One Star) Not Rated, 106 mins. (Koch Lorber)
