ColeSmithey.com"Click" is a one-trick-pony of a comedy.

Family man Michael Newman (Adam Sandler) receives a device to control his life as if it were a DVD only to discover that he has programmed out all of the best parts, including his own interaction with that rarified substance called "life."

Cell phones ring a bell?

Put that damned thing down.

Adam Sandler genuflects to his trademark cannon of crude humor-his family dog constantly dry humps a giant stuffed duck-while using his universal remote's "fast forward" and "skip" feature more than it's "rewind" or "pause" buttons.

Christopher Walken adds a modicum of bizarre wit as Morty, the mad scientist responsible for inventing the device, while Kate Beckinsale is largely squandered as Sandler's unsatisfied wife.

Screenwriter Steve Koren riffs on the same formula he developed for the Jim Carrey vehicle "Bruce Almighty," and director Frank Coraci ("The Waterboy") is helpless at energizing the humdrum text.

Rated PG-13. 106 mins.
